The movie covers the years prior to, during, and after the Russian Revolution, as seen through the eyes of poet/physician Yuri Zhivago, who, although married to another, falls in love with a political activist’s wife and experiences hardship during the First World War and then the October Revolution.
Set in the wake of the 1916 Easter Rising, the movie tells the story of a teacher’s (Robert Mitchum) wife (Sarah Miles) who has an affair with a troubled British soldier (Christopher Jones).
The film deals with the situation of British prisoners of war during World War II who are ordered to build a bridge to accommodate the Burma-Siam railway. British and American officers plot to blow up the structure, but the commander of the bridge’s construction has different plans.
A humble orphan suddenly becomes a gentleman with the help of an unknown benefactor.
