A duel between two feuding Napoleonic officers D’Hubert and Feraud eventually evolves into a 16-year-old series of violent sword and pistol duels, after each bout, for various reasons, ends unresolved.
The mail in the north used to be delivered by dogsled, but the success of airplane delivery leaves Balto and the other sled dogs feeling neglected. The sled dogs and mushers then challenge a pilot to a race.
